Tamara & Adam - Butley Priory Wedding

“We were living in Edinburgh at the time and I was 6 months pregnant. We decided to do a secret non legal commitment ceremony before our son was born, with just us two. We rented a beautiful coach house in the countryside just outside of Glasgow. It was a warm spring day and we held our ceremony in the garden. Adam surprised me with a harpist and after we shared our commitments to one another he got down on one knee. It was very special! and a big surprise!”

How it all started?

We met whilst I was at university in Leeds in 2016. Adam moved in to our houseshare when another flatmate moved out. He thought I was too loud and I thought he was too quiet we soon realised we balance each other out.”

Wedding Plans

We were so indecisive about where to get married. We were looking to elope, then abroad, then Edinburgh. I am surprised we actually even got married when we did as it took us so long to decide on location!

We really wanted a unique venue. Although we can appreciate gorgeous barns and rustic, boho wedding vibes...it just wasn't really us.

We loved that Butley was a bit different and it has a lovely, peaceful energy. We also loved that getting married in Butley meant that we could really personalise our wedding and have what we wanted rather than a package.

In terms of our wedding style we wanted something timeless with a modern twist. For our flowers we chose some beautiful classic roses alongside less traditional orchids. Adam wore a stunning orchid boutonniere made from light weight clay handmade in London by Ophelia Ren bridal. It was such a beautiful piece and even more special that it is something we can keep as a memory of the day and maybe even pass down to our children.

I felt like I had a little bit of an advantage when it came to dress shopping as I had previously worked for 3 years as a bridal stylist in a boutique in Cambridge. During my time there I was lucky enough to have tried on many dresses and styles so I knew what suited me and what didn't. I wanted to feel like an enhanced version of myself. My dress was called 'Beau' by the designer 'Made with Love'. I chose it because of the unique beading, flattering neckline and bonus points that it was super comfortable. I also added my own spin on it by adding on additional tulle sleeve that were actually meant for another dress. I just loved that they softened the look and made it very pretty and feminine. I then couldn't believe my luck when I found bella belle handmade shoes that matched my wedding dress and even had tulle bows at the back!

Our wedding day was unique to us as our 2 year old, Bodhi got to witness his parents getting married. He was dressed in the cutest tuxedo and was our ring bearer. It was really special having him there with us on the day.

We found Images by Anna via instagram. We were looking for photographers in the Suffolk area. As soon as we saw Annas work he wanted to book her. We loved that her images are romantic & classic yet modern and timeless.

Our guests were stunned by the venue. They all thought it was stunning. They were also amazed with Images by Anna high energy throughout the day and loved the photos. Anna managed to capture quite a few couple photos which we were able to gift our families for Christmas

Tips for future couples

“My main tip would be to take the time to think about not only the aesthetic of the venue but the team who work there and the reputation of who you hire. For us we truly believe that our day went so smoothly as we really focused on hiring vendors with an excellent track record. This meant they all knew exactly what they were doing on the day. We were pretty relaxed as we had full confidence in who we had hired.”

The day just ran so smoothly we couldn't quite believe it. We were expecting a few hitches here and there but there were non! everything ran as it should and we were so grateful for this. We also got really lucky with the weather as it had been pretty miserable just a few days before.
